International Media Trends- Position Paper II

International Media is defined as a concept that grew from many theoretical approaches and technological advances.  A media trend is defined as a trend seen in different parts of the media. As media analysts, we are aware and educated on trends being popular for a certain amount of time. Some trends take the media world by storm for years while others only last a few days to weeks. Trends have been around since the beginning of different societies and areas in the world. Trends are more noticeable and even valuable in today’s society due to social media and politics.

Since COVID 19 has transpired heavily in the world, trends have been at an all-time high. Trends such as Tik Tok dances, virtual concerts, binge-watching, and more essential worldly things have been arising higher 100% more than they were before the ‘new normal’ has taken place. Tik Tok was launched in September 2016, but honestly, I haven't heard as much about Tik Tok until the coronavirus pandemic started. Tik Tok has reached a high level of popularity over the past year. According to research, the music video maker app has gained over 600 million users as of January 2021. With the app requiring the lowest user age to be at least 13 years old, the app welcomes almost any and everyone to join in on the fun.

There are over 100 Tik Tok Trends in the world. Music artists are gaining more exposure thanks to Tik Tok and those who use the app as a great sense of creativity.  Tik Tok has sparked increased sales in music as well. Analysts believe that the hip-hop game is changing for the better thanks to Tik Tok and its trends. What starts as a regular dance and song offer ends in millions of dollars and entertainment for social media. Even Spotify has taken initiative to make a list of catchy songs or as they stated ‘Tik Tok songs you can’t get out of your head’. Tik Tok not only helps enhance the brand of music artists, but it also helps build and enhance a brand for people who live regular lives. There are over 40 Tik Tok stars, some dancers, and some comedians. According to research, the most famous Tik Toker is only 16 years old. Charli D’Amelio became famous after uploading a video of her dancing on Tik-Tok to a song called "Lottery (Renegade)". As of this year, the famous and young tik toker’s net worth is over 75 million dollars. I guess that if you have the right marketing team, your sense of creativity, your love for Tik Tok, and the ability to gain views that you can get rich from Tik Tok.

Truth be told, Tik Tok has help from its users like Charli as far as creating long-lasting trends goes. People, artists, and trends are discovered on Tik Tok every day. More brands and people who wish to build their brand use Tik Tok as a marketing strategy and creative experience. Unfortunately, until COVID is completely done leaving its mark, Tik Tok will continue to be used even more than it was before. Many believe that Tik-Tok is such an addictive activity and trend that it will soon replace the need for television, I don't think so, but years from now it could be a possible chance.

Besides TIk Tok being a big international media trend or one of the most liked and popular international media trends, there are many others. All international media trends are reaching over 30% of consistent internet users in one day. Selective platforms like Facebook and Twitter help enhanced international media trends. Trends on the internet are like hot topics without the need to use television. It’s not a surprise that Facebook is the first social media platform to receive an international media trend. After Facebook, the trend will move to Twitter, Instagram, and then Snapchat. Instagram is now trending as a shopping and marketing place 95% of the time for its users. Remember when Instagram was just about strictly photo sharing?

Many international media trends are monitored by marketing experts. According to research, market research on international media trends identifies the behavior and interests of different types of audiences. According to marketing and social media experts, international media trends consist of an ongoing vibe of optimism. I wasn’t aware that trends consisted of marketing strategies, but they do. International trends have a consistent brand message. Most messages clearly say “Be happy”, “Go do something fun”, or “Live life” to help others avoid being down or depressed right? According to more research, international media trends are the new source of news. Trends are most likely to trend on social media websites before they hit the television screen. From my perspective, I feel that International media trends are what brings the world together as one.
