The media emerges as trending social media topics are on the rise. Vlogs, podcasts, streaming services, and so much more are changing the way we consume the media every day. The definition of trends is a general direction in which something developing or changing. When I researched the definition of trends I realized the similarities it has with social media. Trending social media topics align with four things, places, the millennial age, entertainment, and time.
Trending social media topics are considered to attract millennials the most. How do trending social media topics trend, to begin with? Well, we know that things travel across the web quickly. Trending social media topics are like the news for millennials because the millennial age is the most technologically advanced generation of all time. We, and when I say we I do mean millennials, are the most socially advanced generation, as well as the most social media advanced generation. Trending social media topics become trends because of millennials. We post, we share, we take pictures, for goodness sake we go viral without sought out to do so.
According to research, 90.4% use social media. Not only do millennials share social media trending topics, but we also create them. However, connectivity does take time as far as a trending topic getting the extra exposure. The more connection on social media, the more we connect, the more social media increases in usage and as a platform to share marketing, branding, and networking. Millennials spend over six hours on social media every day.
Social media is a constant platform and flux for millennials. For those who believe social media is a waste of time and separates us from reality, the more sharing of visual content, the more connective activities, the more viral and virtual experience, the better. Understanding that the millennial generation is the key age that finds social media to be inseparable, but others should also understand how it enhances our daily lives, our dreams, our goals, and our aspirations. It's the way we use social media that creates social media trends as well as trending social media topics. We make each other as well as others laugh, cry, and feel motivated most strangely and virtually. From Tik-Tok to Clubhouse, to Twitter, to Facebook, and Instagram, these social media and create websites and apps help us create trends and share them with the world.
How can social media trends be
misused? First of all, you will never see everyone agreeing on certain trending
topics, especially trending topics that relate to politics. Sometimes social
media trending topics can cause a lot of controversies. When there is a real
issue in the world, it becomes a trending topic on social media and that
trending topic can be turned into a touchy topic that addresses the real issues
of the world. A trending topic on social media can be misused when others
choose to misuse it themselves. Unfortunately, some people go in the wrong
direction when it comes to sharing opinions and some people are steered wrong
from inaccurate facts and opinions when the trending topic is beyond what we
feel, see, or think, For example, topics that are purposeful and vital
shouldn't be joked about in the eyes of those who are extremely sensitive. It's
kind of like cyberbullying someone, but not knowing who you are being direct
toward.
Even
though there can be a dark side to social media trends, they are essential.
Most topics that trend on social media serve a purpose, serve communities, and
helps spark much-needed conversations that others may be afraid to have in person.
That person that felt protesting wasn't safe for them joined the trending topic
on social media and used their voice by typing. That person that had a question
about bell-bottoms went to social media and clicked on the fashion trend to
receive their much need answer. Trending social media topics creates
friendships, raises awareness, it brings generations together.
